..
                            045opt 1
Volunteer Alex Allsopp helps an RBKC resident with the Community Car Scheme

Our volunteers come in all shapes and sizes, varying in age and background; employed and retired.   Some are students or, are themselves disabled.  All are interested in making their own contribution to the welfare of others, either helping those less mobile than themselves while at the same time either making use of their spare time or, gaining confidence and skills for their chosen careers.

We are looking for:

  • Drivers (who may or may not have a car)
  • Passenger assistants
  • Administrators
  • Gardeners

If you are willing to spare just a few hours per week, we will pay out-of-pocket expenses as well as give support and training.

We provide essential transport for people who have difficulties with public transport.  Our team of volunteers assists and supports those elderly and disabled people who find it difficult or impossible to use public transport.

Our three Door-to-Door services are:

  • Community car scheme
  • Shopper service
  • ‘Out and About’ scooter loan scheme

All of which are supported by our volunteers.

Most of our volunteers drive for us but, there are other positions for non-drivers.  For example, our volunteer passenger assistants play an invaluable role on our Shopper ’bus, helping passengers on and off the vehicle, even carrying their bags to their front doors. We also need vehicle washers, gardeners and administrators.

WANTED
A Volunteer Director for Kindred Studios; a collection of artists’ ateliers currently occupying 10,000 square feet under Westway in West London where over 90 artists create their art in affordable workspaces.  The works produced here include painting, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, jewellery, knitwear, photography, film making, illustrations, installations, 3D printing and, many other expressions of the fine arts.
Currently, the two artist founders of the project are running this not-for-profit business alone.
The Director will be a capable individual with solid business experience, who can devote his or her time to develop and implement a strategy to locate and acquire new premises when the current arrangements expire in a year’s time and also to identify and secure funding for those premises.  The founders are in touch with a number of suitable contacts in the charity sector, with whom discussions continue with the object of gaining their support.  The founders will thus be relieved of this task and able to concentrate on day-to-day administration and other managerial responsibilities as well as making their own art.
This is an exciting opportunity for a retired person with commercial experience who wishes to put to good use the currently under-utilised knowledge gained in a managerial position in business.
To find out more about Kindred Studios and what is required there, please contact, in the first instance: Jaime Turner www.info@kindredstudios.org  or, 07767 059 313.

BEFRIENDING ISOLATED PEOPLE
Cosimo Matteini works for Hestia which runs RBKC's Mental Health Befriending Scheme which  recruits, trains and supervises volunteers to visit isolated people with enduring mental health problems in Kensington and Chelsea.     Tney are looking for volunteers to act as befrienders to individual isolated people.
Cosimo writes: Most of the volunteers I am able to recruit are students of psychology and counselling in their early twenties. However, many of the service users wishing to utilise the service are in their 50s and 60s. Whilst some intergenerational partnership are working very well, some of our service users would prefer to have a befriender in a similar age range. I am wondering if some Retirement Reinvented users may wish to volunteer ?
Hestia are also looking for volunteers to act as walking group co-ordinators to encourage people with mental health difficulties to explore London.
In both cases, conact cosimo.matteini@hestia.org to learn more.
