The Marsden is a financially strong, well run Society with assets of £334M, serving over 40,000 members. With 11 retail outlets in the North West, the Society’s operational reach is extended through online and telephone services across England and Wales, enabling both new and existing members to use the services in a contemporary manner of their choosing. This is an exciting time for The Marsden as the leadership team executes a strategy which strengthens its position as a highly successful regional building society offering competitive mortgage and savings products with the highest level of fairness and service to its members.
Within this context, the Board is looking to recruit additional Non-Executive directors to support future rotation and succession. This is an excellent opportunity to bring an independent perspective on the overall running of the Society, with a particular emphasis on strategy formulation, effective corporate governance and the review and control of business performance in what is a highly regulated environment.
We are looking to attract proven business leaders with board level experience which has been gained within commercially focused, customer driven, multi-channel organisations. You will have a keen desire to join a mutual organisation with a view to assisting the Board in considering the strategic challenges and choices ahead. Key areas for review will include assessing the markets and distribution channels to develop for the future; how to balance finite resources and costs commensurate with the Society’s size; improving efficiency whilst maintaining excellent service.
With a keen intellect and a down to earth style, you will be able to bring complementary and diverse skills such as financial management, credit risk, legal and regulatory, customer led distribution or change management/organisation development. An independent minded individual with outstanding influencing and communication skills, you will be able to challenge constructively whilst also monitoring the Society’s performance to ensure it delivers against its business and strategic plans.
Coaching and training will be provided for candidates if it is your first Non-Executive appointment or if your ambition is to lead the Board as Chairman in the future.
