chair for Scottish Consortium for Learning Disability

The Scottish Consortium for Learning Disability (SCLD) is a charity set up in 2001 by third sector organisations and universities. SCLD's team works alongside people with learning disabilities, their families and carers and in partnership with stakeholders across the learning disability and health and social care landscapes.  Following the recruitment of our new Chief Executive earlier this year, we are now looking for a Chair to lead the strategy and governance of the charity on behalf of the 12 partner organisations.  As Chair you will:

* Provide leadership, vision and direction to the Board of Trustees and the organisation as a whole.
* Build an inclusive and effective board which has the knowledge, skills and experience to lead the organisation effectively.
* Act as a key link between the Board of Trustees, chairs of Board sub committees and working groups, Chief Executive and the Senior Management Team
* Act as a figurehead and spokesperson, supporting and raising SCLD’s profile nationally and internationally and championing the rights of people with learning disabilities, their families and carers

The role is non-remunerated but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. The Board meets for half a day four times a year.  There is an expectation to attend additional meetings and represent SCLD at external events - the anticipated time commitment is approximately two days a month.  For more information please visit www.aspenpeople.co.uk/SCLD or call Donogh O'Brien or Melissa Scholes on 0141 212 7555. To apply please send your CV and covering letter to mscholes@aspenpeople.co.uk quoting G748.

Salary: non remunerated

Closing date for applications: Friday 27th September 2013.
