Companies hire an interim manager when they have a problem and it requires immediate action. They are looking for someone who has successfully dealt with similar problems and is completely competent in that area. The interim manager has to be an experienced manager of change, and is likely to be over -qualified for the particular role he or she is asked to take on, which may be for a duration of 3 to 18 months.
