"A true gentleman is a man who knows how to play the bagpipes - but does'nt" Anon
Bagpipes are not everyone’s choice of an instrument to learn and to play in retirement, and may be less suitable for those living in a flat without access to wide open spaces. But as a member of a pipe band or playing solo for appropriate social occasions a piper can give great enjoyment to himself and the audience.
The ‘fingering’ is learnt and practiced on a chanter (similar to a recorder) which can safely be played indoors.
They say it takes seven generations to make a real piper, but few listeners are sufficiently discerning to tell.
