Cambridge Building Society

  • Two Commercial Non Executive Directors
  • Cambridge
  • £22,200 non executive fee
The Cambridge is an independent, mutual building society which has been serving the community since 1850.  Providing funding for people buying homes and a trusted home for people who want to save, they now have 18 branches within a 20 mile radius of the Head Office in Cambridge.  But there are now even more ways for their 132,000 customers to do business with them through intermediary partners, online and an extended product range available over the telephone as they put the customer at the heart of what they do.  With assets of over £1bn and employing 186 staff The Cambridge is committed to the communities it serves, to being a mutual society and to providing competitive products and market leading service to its customers.
The Cambridge is headed by the Board, which is collectively responsible for the long-term success of the business based on strong financial and risk management.  It encourages an environment of constructive challenge to ensure focus on understanding and delivering what is relevant and appealing to customers, whilst operating the business as efficiently as possible.  As part of its succession planning, the Cambridge wants to recruit two Non Executive Directors to join the board in 2013.  The time commitment is expected to be up to three days per month, including board committee work.
You have held a strategic role that has contributed to the success of a commercial organisation and will be able to demonstrate broad experience and understanding of financial management, strategic planning and resource utilisation.  We are looking for customer champions with in depth knowledge of consumer outcomes and strategies, your experience will have been gained on the executive committee of an FMCG, retail or other commercial consumer environment in a P&L management or marketing leadership role.   You will be able to evidence innovation and that you have identified new business opportunities, with the ability to anticipate future consumer needs within technology and e-commerce.
All Non Executive Directors must have a challenging and independent mindset, a genuine empathy with the mutual model and the aims of The Cambridge, as well as an understanding of the Society’s heartland in the East of England.
