Kids moving Away?

A leader in the Times suggests that many old people are feeling marooned by their children's busy lives. More than 80% of children who  move away from their parents locality  do so for work reasons. They have to move away to find a job, and are too busy or too far away to see the old folks often.

Lonliness amongst oldies is a growing problem, and  the facts are that older people who see their children once a  month or less are twice as likely to feel lonely as those who see their children every day.

The WRVS is helping to meet this problem by recruiting volunteers to drop in and chat with oldies, or run errands for them, and the Times is supporting their work by choosing WRVS as one of their charites in this year's Christmas appeal.
