jam Making

You may not associate jam making with building a fortune, but did you know that Tesco recently gave an order to an Edinburgh lad for 15,000 jars a month of his ‘home made ‘ jam?    To be accurate, it was made at home when he started to make jam as a schoolboy four years ago, with mum and dad to fill the jars and stick on the labels.   Now he has sub contracted the making, and is building a business.

Evidently what makes it different is that instead of refined sugar in his recipes he uses natural fruit juices as a sweetner, which presumably appeals to the organic crowd.

But there is plenty of room for a bit of competition from jam makers still working  at home, with open- ended  demand from the produce stalls at the  local Church sale, and endless appreciation  from friends and family who are allowed to have some of your marmalade for  breakfast or raspberry jam for tea.
