Trustees wanted for AVMA

Action against Medical Accidents (AvMA) is the UK charity for patient safety and justice. We provide advice and support to thousands of people each year who have been affected by lapses in patient safety. We exert influence at every level to see patient safety improved and people treated fairly when things do go wrong. We are currently inviting expressions of interest in becoming a trustee of AvMA.
We are seeking trustees with interest in the work of the charity and empathy for the beneficiaries we serve. Trustees should have experience working with people at a senior level in organisations, and an understanding of good governance.
So that the charity can benefit from an appropriate range of knowledge and experience we are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Fundraising
  • IT/healthcare informatics
  • Healthcare human resources/workforce issues
  • Professional and/or healthcare organisation regulation
  • Medical law
  • Patient / service user leadership
We wish to ensure that we are in touch with developments in patient safety and justice in Scotland, so we are looking for at least one new trustee with strong links there.
AvMA takes equality and diversity very seriously, and is particularly interested in hearing from suitable candidates from the black and minority ethnic communities
The AvMA Council of Trustees meets four times a year in the afternoon, and has two sub-committees which also meet four times a year. The role of trustee is not remunerated but travel and expenses are paid and trustees may attend AvMA’s conferences and other training events for free. This is an exciting time for the charity as we build on our many achievements to date and develop our strategy going forward. AvMA is fortunate to own its own building and hold significant financial reserves.
